The Association is based on the spirit of volunteerism and is totally reliant on the time given generously by our volunteers who form the backbone of our association. We promote positive mental health and supports people on their journey of recovery from mental ill-health.
Wicklow Mental Health Association was formed in 2000 and it is affiliated to Mental Health Ireland, it is a voluntary organisation based in Wicklow town and serves the local community promoting positive mental health through our monthly Information Evenings and events.
The Association actively drives the mental health agenda working with the public, local schools and youth groups. Over the last 6 years we have worked with Employability Wicklow, VEC/KWETB, County Wicklow Volunteer Centre and Wicklow Sports Partnership on Building Resilience Together events to encourage people to engage in education, volunteering and sport to help them to build self-esteem and community spirit.
What We Do
Since 2005 we have hosted a wide range of Information Evenings presented by leading speakers and organisations in the mental health sphere. These are supported by the general public from East Wicklow and South Dublin.
Building Resilience Together In Our Community
We have worked the Voluntary Education Committee (VEC), Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board (KWETB), County Wicklow Volunteer Centre and Wicklow Sports Partnership on events to encourage people to engage in education, volunteering and sport to help them to build self-esteem and community spirit.
Health Promotion Pamphlets
We distribute mental health promotional pamphlets throughout the community and at all our events.
We provide a wide range of Health & Wellbeing books which are available from Wicklow Library.
We produced our Sound Advice – Study and Exams Tips pamphlet which has been distributed to all KWETB schools in East Wicklow.
We work in partnership with the HSE/Wicklow Regional Officer for Suicide Prevention to deliver suicide prevention training and events.
WRAP – Wellness Action Recovery Plan
The Association supports the delivery of the Copeland Centre Wellness Programme which is delivered by the HSE Mental Health Service at the Wicklow Primary Care Centre.
Mind Your Mental Health
We support the delivery of this programme which has been developed by Mental Health Ireland in our Community.
Woodlands For Health
Woodlands For Health is an Eco Therapy programme based in Wicklow which was developed by Coillte in partnership with the HSE/Wicklow Mental Health Services, Wicklow Mental Health Association and Mental Health Ireland. The project is a programme prescribed by medical professionals of forest based activities for mental health patients and monitors there progress over set periods.
